Feeding Our Neighbors with Breadcoins
Since March 2021, Founding Farmers & Distillers has partnered with a growing nonprofit in the District working to feed our neighbors. Breadcoin helps distribute food tokens, or “Breadcoins,” to people who are hungry or food-insecure that can be used like cash at local restaurants, bakeries, markets, food trucks, and more.

Straws Made By Life
We have a new sustainability partner across our restaurants. After a lot of trial and error trying to find the best alternative for plastic straws, we came across Restore Regenerative Foodware.
Sunflowers are Back
It is a great season to visit Founding Farmers Tysons. Our sunflowers are back and in-house through September. We love welcoming guests to our Tysons restaurant with our bounty of sunflowers. Each year, we harvest these beauties with our friends and sustainable partners at Sweet Virginia, a non-profit working to educate children about the wonder of honey bees and their importance in pollinating and maintaining food diversity for every living creature on the planet.
A Delicious Way to Save the Bay
It is no secret that sustainable practices are built into the very fabric of our Founding Farmers mission, which includes our efforts to get to know our suppliers and the sources of our food.
Most of the Time We Don’t Need a Straw at All
Since launching Our Last Straw in June, Founding Farmers Co-Owner Dan Simons has continued to collaborate with local businesses and legislators to eliminate the distribution of plastic straws across the DMV.
Taking Our Last Straw to the DC Council
Co-Owner Dan Simons took to DC’s government halls on Friday, testifying at a hearing on plastic straws and stirrers. Speaking before the DC Committee on Transportation and the Environment, Simons encouraged the council to pass the bill that prohibits the sale, use, or provision of non-compostable straws and stirring implements by food service entities, beginning January 1, 2019 with one change: replace the word “compostable” with “biodegradable.” At Founding Farmers, we made the switch to biodegradable straws over a year ago.
